WWFF Mount Mackenzie Nature Reserve VKFF-2668

After activating Currys Gap State Conservation Area continued along Mount Mackenzie Rd, turning right into Gum Flat Rd then left into Mt Mackenzie Lookout Rd, entering the park.

Drove up to the lookout. I had hoped to operate from the lookout itself, but noticed a sign back the other way before it, I had left the park... So reversed back down the road. Found a place I could park off the road and wandered down the embankment into a bit of a clear spot in the bush.

Sorry photo is a bit blurry due to low light.

Operating spot, map from Protected Planet.

Got on 40 m. First contact with Gerard VK2IO/p still in VKFF-0307 Marramarra National Park.
He advised he had done a SOTA activation at the summit nearby, VK2/NT-025 Mount Mackenzie. As you can see from the map the summit lookout is outside the park, although you could activate in both the park and the SOTA activation zone in the right area.

Went on to work

As had 12 contacts, getting cold, down to 10c and the sun was setting packed up and drove up to the lookout as I had not been there before.

View from the lookout

Signs explaining the features and history of the area. Surprised at 1298m, no wonder it was cold...

Headed back down and stopped in Tenterfield for the night.
