After stopping overnight at Palm Beach on the Gold Coast, wanted to do a Gold Coast park. I first tried nearby Burleigh Head National Park, but discovered this small park is just overrun with tourists, joggers, walkers and cyclists everywhere. So decided to try activating another nearby park, David Fleay Conservation Park VKFF-1526.
Drove to a car park off Loman Ln in Burleigh Heads suburb. Entrance to the David Fleay Wildlife park, a series of boardwalks.
Sign for the park.
I set up just outside the car park on the edge of a swampy area to the right of the entrance.
Operating spot. Note the Wildlife Park, Conservation Park and a section of Tallebudgera Creek CP are included in the park boundary. Map from Protected Planet
Sorry no photos, forgot to take some of my radio setup this time.
Got on 40 m. Conditions were very poor this morning. worked the following on 40 m.
VK2IO
VK5BJE
VK2UH
VK3TKK/m
VK3PF
VK3UP.
Tried 80 m, only one more contact, VK4SYD.
As had taken ages to get just 7 contacts and my calls were unanswered, packed up as still had some distance to go. A drive right through the middle of Brisbane with heavy traffic to Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast. This took up most of the day with no time for another activation.
