After stopping overnight at Mount Coolum town on the Sunshine Coast started heading South again. Instead of battling the traffic of Brisbane decided to bypass it inland, heading to Toowoomba via Kilcoy, Esk, and the Esk-Hampton Rd. This road passes close to Ravensbourne National Park, so popped in to activate it for WWFF. Sign at the entrance of the park.
Headed for the main picnic area in the park, Cedar Block day use area, and Gus Beutel lookout.
Close to the lookout a sign about the park.
Set up on one of the picnic tables. Used a metal stake I carry hammered in the ground close to the table to support the squid pole.
Looking the other direction
Shack on the picnic table.
Got on 80 m as I saw a spot for VK2JNG/p in a park. Caught him just before he was about to go clear and change bands, had not even tied up the dipole legs... He was in VKFF-1160 Barayamal National Park, a good S7, would have been too close to me for 40 m NVIS so pleased to get him.
Next contact was with John VK4TJ, VK4/AC8WN, VK4/VE6XT. He was strong, not surprisingly as he lives only a few km away from this lookout towards Toowoomba. He told me the lookout is used by the local radio club for field day activities, quite high with a good takeoff.
Went to 40 m to work some of the usual park hunters
