After staying overnight at Ballina set out for Nightcap National Park, VKFF-0389, one of the closest points Minion Falls. This is located up in the Byron Bay hinterland and involved many roads to get there, scenic but twisty, took me over an hour to do 60 Km, Finally reached the park sign.
Drove up to Grassy Picnic area. First had a look from the lookout at Minion Falls. Fairly distant and probably not as big due to the drought.
Near the lookout Grassy Picnic Area. Set up on one of the picnic tables. The dipole with 80 m extensions took up most of the picnic ground... Still only mid morning so no picnicers yet.
Looking the other direction
Shack on the table. Used my own table just to support the squid pole
Got on 40 m. Worked VK4AAC/3 Rob in VKFF-0981 Yarrawonga Regional Park
Then VK5FANA, VK5BJE and another park to park with VK6MB/3 Mike in VKFF-2173 Passage Camp Nature Conservation Reserve
Worked VK1DA/p Andrew on SOTA summit VK1/AC-023 Mt Coree. You have a choice of parks on this summit, he was in VKFF-0054 Brindabella National Park.
Went on to work park hunters
VK3PF
VK2NP
VK5LA
VK2HRX
VK2YK
Tried switching to 80 m. Managed to work VK2YK again, just, quite weak.
Then
VK4TJ VK4/AC8WN VK4/VE6XT
VK4CZ
Both very strong on 80 m.
Went to 20 m. Another park to park with VK2IO/8 Gerard in VKFF-1243 Kuyunba Conservation Reserve
VK5NJ then another P2P VK6MB/3 still in VKFF-2173
Packed up and drove around to the Minion Falls picnic ground to see the falls close up. This was very crowded and would not have been a good spot to activate from. Minion Falls from the top.
View from Minion Falls lookout
Noticed on a sign in the picnic area another park close by, Whian Whian State Conservation Area. Looked this up, VKFF-1394 so headed there next

Thanks John. The rainforest was pretty nice too. Worth a visit even if the drive was a bit slow going there.
