Goolawah National Park VKFF-1170

After activating Maria National Park drove to Crescent Head, then Point Plumer Rd to the South. Entered Goolawah National Park, after driving for a while found a suitable spot to operate, a car park lookout over the ocean, a sign here for Racecourse Camping Area which was below the lookout.

Found a couple of posts left over from a removed sign, used one of these to support the squid pole, running the dipole along the car park fence. Looking South.

Operating Spot, map from Protected Planet

Looking North. Shack on the table with a great ocean view... Bit windy though.

Got on 40 m. Some distant storm activity producing static QRN, a bit hard copying weak stations. Unlike Maria NP could spot myself easily here. Worked the following.

VK3PF
VK7FRJG
VK3BBB/m
VK2DWP
VK5FANA
VK4MGL
VK2NP
VK4MWB
VK4FARR
VK4RF VK4HA
VK2XSE/m
VK4TJ VK4/AC8WN VK4/VE6XT
VK2VW
VK3VZP/p
VK4CPS/pm

VK4CPS Rod in Gatton was "pedestrian mobile", a bit like VK3YE Peter does using an end fed with a wire counterpoise. He was only running 5 w and coming in up to S8 at times.

Still a drive ahead and wanting to do some more parks so packed up after 18 contacts.
